Looking ahead

Hey everybody,

based on some questions and comments on the discussion board about assignments, tasks, and deadlines, I thought it might be a good point in time to give you a bit of an outlook of how things will proceed.

We have about 10 days left before the international group-work phase kicks off. Terje will take the lead on this.

In the meantime we will be sticking to discussing some aspects related to the Kaptelinin & Nardi book… with some additional reading next week (from the 9th to 14th).

While the networked group-work experience is unfolding we will keep up with a bit more reading, reflection and discussion in parallel. I will take the lead on this. We will try to stick to a weekly rhythm again… as much as possible.

If you feel the need for more clarification … please feel free to post in the Procedural aspects of the course thread in the discussion board.

cheers,

Sebastian

Update on this week’s action

Hi everybody,

I just wanted to provide you with a little update where things are standing at the moment. I have read through about 12-15 posts by now… and I must say, that I am generally pleased with the overall output. So far, I have quite enjoyed reading your texts.

I am also glad that you guys seemed to appreciate the overall engagement with the proposed study material. Since I have never worked with you guys before… it initially always feels a bit like a shot in the dark to select and propose a more elaborate text. I am still trying to get a bit of a feel for where you are all coming from in terms of previous studies and experiences.

Given the fact that most contributions were published on Sunday, it is now my turn to feel a bit of a resource squeeze. Some might say… this is only fair. What goes around comes around… 😉

Anyway, I would like to do the following:

I still want to respond to some of your posts individually… and obviously read the posts I have not touched so far.

However, I will start to formulate some discussion topics or additional questions and publish those on the discussion board. As I said before, I want us to spend the rest of the week on some of the issues raised either in the text… or within your posts.

Naturally, I would like you all to engage with the discussion board as much as possible over the next few days. My preference would be for you to come by more often and rather leave a number of contributions than waiting for one elaborate reply at the very end of the week.

I will formulate an official “task description” and a some criteria for “minimal” engagement. Take that as a sign-post… but try to be more active, as much as your overall schedule allows for it. I will try to publish that description sometimes tonight after I have drafted a few initial ideas for discussion topics based on your output.

So, you all (or… “y’all”… as they say in Georgia, US) will hear from me again… I am afraid. 😉

cheers,

Sebastian

Preliminary note on this week’s action

Hello folks,

just wanted to let you know that we will discuss the recent reading material in more depth this week. We will make use of our discussion forum for this purpose.

However, I think I need a few more hours to look through your initial posts before we can get this all started. In the meantime… try to have a look at what others have published so far.

I am looking forward to increase the level of interaction with you guys in the coming days.

cheers,

Sebastian

Question regarding your experience with HCI, interaction design, …

Hey. I just posted a question on our discussion board regarding your experience with HCI, Interaction Design, Human-Centred Design, Usability, etc. If you find the time… I would appreciate some responses.

Note: This is not an official task. I am simply curious… 😉

A small note…

September 18, 2012 Leave a comment

…about Edufeedr.
Edufeedr is currently in Beta phase with numerous bugs. For example, it serves us well to collect the participants’ weblogs, but the progress of the participants is not displayed very accurately. The same applies, for instance, to the course feeds and comments. We just want to point out that we use our own aggregators for following your weblogs, thus, no need to worry about the ways Edufeedr tries to currently handle your tasks.

As it is developed by our own group at the Centre for Educational Technology (Institute of Informatics), we use it at the same time (in addition to our course purposes) to test the service and collect bugs.

Edufeedr enrollment extended

September 17, 2012 2 comments

Dear participants,

We have some participants who haven’t managed to register their weblogs on Edufeedr. I extended the deadline for enrollment on Edufeedr till Wednesday 19th. Please be sure that you have registered your weblog by Wednesday midnight. We also expect all latecomers to complete the Task 1 (although the deadline has passed already) as this is the first step to get started with the course.

If you encounter problems, don’t hesitate to contact us.

Let’s start using a forum

September 14, 2012 2 comments

In our first Flashmeeting we mentioned that we are going to set up a forum for course related topics and organisational issues.

Here it comes.
Click on the link
Click on “sign in”.
As you don’t have an account, click on “create one”
Fill in the required fields and wait for our approval to become a member.

The purpose of this forum is to have ongoing discussions about the emerging concepts, content related aspects, organisational issues of the course, questions and problems you have during this course or whatever comes to your mind and you want to discuss it with this group. Like a “backchanneling” option…

It is a rather simple and easy forum, but feel free to play around with it, exploring its possibilities and initiate new discussions. The content will be visible only for registered members.

We strongly encourage you to take initiative and control for starting learning conversations…

Hello everyone! We received the official list of participants from administration. I put all names on the participants 2012 page. You might want to check if your name is actually there… and spelled correctly. Just in case. 😉
