Task 1: completion of personal data and your experiences with Webpublishing

Thank you for participating in our first videoconference! If you want to have a look at the recording of our meeting, click on the same Flashmeeting link. As I already mentioned in our meeting, there are going to be some tasks to be carried out during this course and they are going to be a basis for your pass/fail assessment.

So let’s get started and as a first task we would like you all to …

First review and complete your personal information on our Wikiversity course page if you haven’t done it yet. Please make sure you have put a link to your Weblog that you intend to use for course work. If you use a particular category (or the course tag) to label content within your (general) Weblog then also put the URL of that particular category. This will make it easier to follow each others publishing flows.

Second, we would like you to register your weblog in Edufeedr if you haven’t done it yet. Edufeedr provides a nice overview of the course progress.

Third, we would like to get an overview of your experiences with and use of personal Webpublishing  tools and services (Weblogs, Webfeeds, Wikis, participating in social networking activities, etc.). Put out a Weblog post (on your personal Weblog) describing the  kind of networked tools and services you are constantly using (or have tried out at least), the context (leisure, study, work) you are (mostly) using them in,  and on for what purposes you are making use of them. This information gives us all an overview of your current “presence” on the Web and helps us to understand your level of proficiency with Webpublishing and using a variety of instruments. It would be nice if you indicate the link of this post while putting out your posts. Doing it that way allows Edufeedr to show your progress.

The deadline for this task is:  Sunday, 9th of September, 24.00 (Estonian time).

That’s it for this week. New tasks will be published on Monday next week.

Looking forward to work with you,

Terje & Sebastian

Would all our exchange be public? Is there an email address where I could send messages to instructors? I could not participate yesterday, in fact I am still waiting for the approval of my faculty to formally register this course but hope to be able to do it and catch up. What is the prefered environment to present questions on substance?

Hello! I reluctantly decided to ask: What is the difference between a comment and a trackback? Also, I tried to leave my post link here yesterday and it seemed I succeeded but today I do not find it anywhere on this blog. I am wordpress blind, me old blogger user…Thank you in advance for any help you could provide!

      Hello Maria,

are you saying that you left a link here in the comment section? I cannot see any comment pending in the system.

Trackback is basically a notification in between two (publishing)sites. So, if you put the url of a particular post into your own post some systems can notify each other that you are referencing a particular piece of content. (see also http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trackback ).

I noticed that you did this on your post. Maybe your trackback link was classified as “spam” and I accidently deleted it when I did some cleaning.

Could you be so kind and republish your post? (just make a minor edit in it and post it again.)… then I could have a look if the trackback shows up again… and/or is categorised as spam.

Hi! Thank you for this clarification. Yes, indeed I tried to post twice and it told me I had already done this despite its absence from the list. I had also tagged the post. Hope it can be visible now: http://www.dioraming.blogspot.com It is the only post on this so far. I am a bit at a loss with the second task because I am an experienced mindmapper, have always done this from childhood, and teach my students based on the same system. However, I have not once used it for personal reflection. It seems very uncomfortable to plan on non-professional activities online, and openly. I am not sure if I want to share that at all. Maybe it is enough to make a scheme of studies, on a specifi presentation or task or work/project related? Have a good week! MC.
